Moalboal Nov, 2012

Hi, friends of Moalboal!!

Soon December, high season and Christmas. It looks like high and low
seasons are about to move and blend into each other. Chilibar have had
pool tournament every Wednesday through the whole year for the first
time. Moalboal used to be dead between mid may until med Nov with a few
peaks but we see more people now. The Philippines got voted into the top
ten for people to retire and we will probably see more of that.

There's still a shit fight for European or USA flights to fly to the
Philippines, below I have made a list of all international flights to
Cebu as of Nov 2012.

I heard on BBC today that the Philippines is the hottest economi in
South East Asia. Also that they are planning and trying to pass through
a SIN TAX on tobacco and alcohol. That does not sound good.

As of today, we are 488 readers of the Moalboal mailing List. Soon 500

ACTIVITIES:

Pool tournament at Chili bar every Wednesday.

Neptune with Jussi has started a free diving school.

BIRTHS, SOCIAL AND GOSSIP:

Do you remember " Gabonillas Cottages" a few blue huts just were
the road turned 90 degrees by Love lodge; that is all gone now and
Korean resort is popping up with the capacity of 100 guest nights.
I'm in Malaysia writing this and a tour guide here asked me "do
you like Koreans?" I said I was not sure and he said "we
don't like them, they try to take over and only eat and drink in
Korean restaurants/bars" Well well, we will see.

Gossip is/was that white gold would open next to the Globe tele mast and
Gaisano would open across the road from doctor Iris. We will see about
that but they ARE building a Gaisano supermarket in Dumanjug, just where
the road turns 90 degrees. A bit strange that we all want to live in
paradise away from everything else but still want supermarkets and
internet.

SMART just had a fiber optic cable installed to their mast, I would
guess it is for 3G.

There's now an cafe' on the beach with aircon next to
Sarah's restaurant.

PRACTICAL:

At the moment the
exchange rate is:
1 $ = 41.20
1 Euro = 52.61
1 Pound = 65.6
1 Swedish crown = 6.09

Sure, exchange rates are interesting sometimes but did you know that the
price for San Miguel Pale Pilsen has increased 3 times this year. It is
now 412 peso for a case, it has not yet reached it's true value (and
probably never will) but we do not like it.

The ATM at the pharmacy in Moalboal works good when it's not empty.
VISA cards OK.

The minimum wage in Cebu city is now 327 peso/day.

WHALE SHARK SIGHTINGS:

There was a whale shark just outside the balcony of Chili Bar. Not bad
ha, you can drink ice cold beer and watch whalesharks at the same time.

Most dive shops have now stopped promoting whaleshark watching in Oslob.
Not good to feed wild animals.

Once you have taken a picture of your whale shark you should go to
http://www.whaleshark.org, they will
register the shark.
